The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is based in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan. This Kazakhstan University took its name from the renowned philosopher and scholar Al-Farabi and outstands as one of the largest university in the country. It was in the year of 2001 that it was recognized as a national university. The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University campus is located between the Timiryazev Street, the "Yessentai" ("Vesnovka") river, Al-Farabi Avenue and the Botanical Garden. The main building in the campus is 15 floors tall, and houses the University administration center and the faculties concerned with disciplines like Philology, Economics, Journalism, History and Law. The city of Almaty, formerly known as Alma-Ata is the largest of all the other cities in Kazakhstan. The city serves as the capital of the state of Kazakh during the period 1929-97 after which the capital was shifted to the city of Astana (Also known as Nur-Sultan).

Almaty yet continues to be known as the largest commercial and cultural hub in Kazakhstan. Moving on to its climate, the city experiences a humid continental climate accompanied by hot summers and cold winters. What sets this climate apart is the influence from the mountain-valley circulation. HOW TO GET AROUND THE CITY OF ALMATY?

Moving on to the part of commuting, there is the Almaty International Airport which is the largest international airport in the country. It is located in the northeastern part of the city. The traveling distance between the Kazakh National University and Almaty International Airport is around 19 kilometers and it roughly takes half an hour to complete the journey.

If you care for a bus drive, then there is the Sayran Bus Terminal that offers intercity connections within the bounds of the Kazakhstan territory along with international journeys to countries like China & Kyrgyzstan. The railway corporation of Kazakhstan is known to be Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. The corporation has two stations, namely the Almaty-1 and Almaty-2. The Almaty-1 is located 30 minutes’ drive from the university covering a distance of about 15 kilometers.  However, rarely does the station run passenger trains. It is mostly reserved for cargo transportation.

Whereas the Almaty-2 station is situated within close proximity of the city and it takes 7 kilometers to reach the station from the Kazakh National University. Unlike the former, the Almaty-2 Station is mostly for passengers.

The city has also taken one step ahead in terms of transportation by introducing Almaty Metro in 2011 and a light rail has also been planned for the same.

Kazakhstan has also taken into use bicycle-sharing system where the people can avail chartered bicycles for getting around the city.
